Housed inside the grand Kimpton Clocktower Hotel, The Refuge is one of Manchester’s most beautiful and iconic restaurants, known for its spectacular winter garden room, gorgeous interiors, and seasonal British-led menu.

The space is huge and cleverly divided into different atmospheres, from the elegant dining room and lively public bar to the leafy winter garden, cosy den, and private rooms for smaller groups. Even if you’re not eating in the winter garden, it’s worth walking around just to admire the interiors.

We ate in the main dining room and ordered the Sunday roast and beef cheeks, both absolutely delicious, using mostly British ingredients and done really well. It’s a fantastic spot for a relaxed but special meal.

Good to know: booking ahead is highly recommended, especially if you want a table in the winter garden. A must-visit for food lovers who appreciate beautiful spaces as much as good cooking.
