The short 20–30 minute walk from the National Trust Car Park by Cregennen Lakes is a perfect way to unwind and soak in Snowdonia’s wild beauty. The lakes themselves are incredibly peaceful — ideal for a picnic, a quick stretch, or just gazing across the water to the surrounding mountains and the distant sea. Parking is free for National Trust members, and there are toilets and plenty of picnic tables, which makes it an easy stop for families or hikers.
Getting there feels like an adventure in itself: a narrow, winding road with sheep wandering freely adds a charming, quintessentially rural touch. The Arthog Stone Circle is a bit tricky to find (no signs really, so we've used the map at the car park and then google maps), and it’s modest compared to other prehistoric sites, but the location is magical. From the circle, you’re rewarded with sweeping views of mountains, lakes, and scattered sheep — a surreal landscape that feels far removed from the crowds.
Insider tips: Bring enough water, sunscreen, and a hat on sunny days — there’s no shade. Even if the stone circle is small, the hike and the surrounding scenery alone make this a worthwhile stop.
