We visited in February 2026 and Bibury remains the crown jewel of the Cotswolds for us. The secret to seeing it properly? Beat the crowds at all costs. We arrived 30 minutes before sunrise and stayed until 30 minutes after sunset, and we didn't see a single other tourist or tour bus. The water here is pristine and crystal clear, which creates a magical reflection of the ancient stone cottages that photos simply cannot capture.

If you are staying in Horsley (like we did), it’s a straightforward 40-minute drive. Aim to be parked and out of your car by 9am at the very latest to avoid the heavy influx of tour groups. While it’s the most famous spot in the region, seeing it in the quiet, "blue hour" light makes it feel like you've stepped back in time.

  • Must-See Spots: Don't just stick to the main road. Prioritize Arlington Row, the area surrounding St. Mary’s Church, and the beautiful grounds near the roverside and the Swan Hotel.

  • Parking: There is free on-street parking on the main street (called The Street) and is usually empty if you arrive early enough. If it's full, don’t stress—you can park for a fee (£5 for the day) at the Bibury Trout Farm car park.

  • The Vibe: The village is at its most magical when the water is still and the streets are empty. Shoulder season is a fantastic time to visit for this reason—crisp air and zero crowds.
