Mam Tor is one of the Peak District’s most iconic viewpoints — but in winter at sunset, when the peaks are dusted with snow, it’s absolutely magical. The short walk from the Mam Nick car park takes you up the “Shivering Mountain,” and in just 20–30 minutes you’re rewarded with sweeping views over the Hope Valley and Edale.

We went in midwinter, bundled up in hats and gloves, and watched the sky turn fiery orange over a frost-covered landscape. The ridgeline glowed, the valleys shimmered — and to our surprise, we even spotted people skiing and snowboarding down the snowy slopes (you'll have to walk back up yourself though as there are no cable cars.

Insider tip: The path is easy to follow but can get icy — wear good boots. Arrive early to grab a parking spot and watch how quickly the light changes across the hills.
