After exploring Cregennan Lakes and the Arthog Stone Circle, we stopped at the George III Hotel — and it was the perfect way to end the afternoon. This historic inn sits right on the edge of the Mawddach Estuary, next to the charming Penmaenpool Toll Bridge, and combines warm hospitality with excellent food.
The menu focuses on fresh, seasonal, home-cooked dishes — I had the seabass, which was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented, while the rest of the table tucked into hearty pub classics and local specials. Portions are generous, quality is consistent, and the setting makes the food taste even better.
The restaurant and terrace are spacious and bright, meaning you can usually find a table without booking — though it does get busy on sunny days thanks to its location. Parking is plentiful and free on-site, making it an easy stop during a Snowdonia road trip. And if you’re traveling with a furry co-pilot, you’ll be pleased to know that dogs are warmly welcomed here.
Tip: Grab a table by the window or outside on the terrace to enjoy peaceful estuary views while you eat. It’s a rare combination of convenience, history, and natural beauty — definitely one to mark on your map.
