Fieldhead Campsite is conveniently located right in the heart of the Village of Edale, at the foot of Mam Tor. If you’re coming to the Peak District primarily to walk, cycle, or properly switch off, this is one of the best-located campsites you can choose.

It’s a small, quiet site next to the Peak District Moorland Centre, designed for people who want to be outdoors all day and relax in the evenings. No road noise, no party atmosphere — just walkers, cyclists, and early risers.

Location & Access:
One of Fieldhead’s biggest advantages is that it's only a 7-minute walk from Edale train station (0.3 miles), making it ideal if you’re arriving without a car, and just 4 minutes walk (0.2 miles) from the Rambler Inn for your post-hike food or a pint. Mam Tor, Grindslow Knoll, Kinder Scout and multiple classic Edale routes all start practically from your tent.

What to Expect:
This is a traditional tent-only campsite. There are no electric hook-ups, no Wi-Fi, and very limited mobile signal — which honestly is part of the appeal. Car parking is separate from the pitches, but wheelbarrows are available to move your kit.

Facilities are simple but well maintained, with toilets, hot showers (coin or token operated), washing-up areas, drinking water, a fridge/freezer, and even a washing machine and dryer.

Important Rules: No BBQs, fire pits, or solid fuel fires are allowed. This is strictly enforced due to its National Park location — BBQs will be confiscated. If campfires are important to you, then this may not be the right site.

Pitches & Practical Info:
Fieldhead offers standard grass pitches (with or without a car), backpacker pitches for walkers and cyclists, and limited space for larger tents (which must be pre-booked). Minimum stay is usually two nights, and longer on bank holidays.

It’s not the cheapest campsite in the Peak District, but you’re paying for location, peace, and access rather than extras like electric or Wi-Fi.

Why It’s Worth It:
If your idea of a perfect Peak District trip is early starts, big hikes, quiet evenings, and rolling straight out of your tent onto world-class walking routes, Fieldhead Campsite is hard to beat. It’s practical, well run, and perfectly placed — especially if you’re arriving by train or tackling Kinder Scout on foot
