Japanese Garden

I visited the Japanese Garden at Tatton Park in May 2026 with my family, and it honestly felt like one of those hidden gems you can’t believe is so close to Manchester. Just a 30–40 minute drive from the city centre, but it feels a world away once you step inside.

The garden itself is absolutely beautiful—peaceful, well-kept, and thoughtfully designed. We spent ages just wandering the winding paths, stopping by the water features, and soaking in the calm atmosphere. It’s the kind of place that makes you slow down without even realising it. If you enjoy Japanese gardens, this one really does live up to expectations.

It’s part of the wider Tatton Park gardens, so there’s plenty more to explore too. We made a full day of it, which I’d definitely recommend if you’re going with family or friends. That said, it’s not the cheapest outing—parking costs around £9–£11 (£9 if you purchase your ticket online), and entry to the gardens is about £11 per person. If you’ve got RHS or National Trust membership though, entrance to the gardens is free, which makes it much more worthwhile. However you will still have to pay for parking.

We drove, which was easy enough, but if you’re taking the train from Manchester Piccadilly (via Northern Railway), just keep in mind there’s about a two-mile walk from the station to the park entrance—it’s doable, but feels quite long, especially on the way back.

Overall, I’d absolutely recommend it. It’s a lovely, relaxing day out and perfect if you’re looking to spend some quality time outdoors with family or friends—especially on a sunny weekend.
