Getting around Elba
Why having your own car makes exploring the island much easier

A car is the most convenient way to explore Elba. Many of the island’s smaller beaches, mountain villages and hiking areas are difficult to reach by public transport.
The roads can be narrow, steep and winding, especially in the western and mountainous parts of the island. Take your time and avoid choosing the largest rental car available.
During July and August, traffic and parking can become challenging around popular beaches. Start early or plan your visits for later in the afternoon.
Travelistas tip: Do not rely only on travel times shown in navigation apps. Short distances can take longer than expected on Elba’s winding roads.
