Antica Macelleria di Francesco Rossi is considered the oldest butcher’s shop on the island of Elba. Francesco has been running the traditional family business since 2004, when he took it over from his father. Every morning at the crack of dawn, he makes his excellent “salsicce” — Italian sausages — by hand. As soon as you step into the lovingly decorated shop, tucked away in a narrow alley in the old town of Portoferraio, you can feel his passion for the butcher’s craft. With his first-class meat specialities and warm, welcoming manner, Francesco is highly appreciated far beyond Portoferraio.
