The Valley of the Queens offers a quieter and less crowded alternative to the nearby Valley of the Kings, while remaining one of the most important royal necropolises of Ancient Egypt.
During the New Kingdom period, this site served as the burial ground for queens, princes, and members of the royal family. The most famous tomb is that of Queen Nefertari, considered one of the finest examples of ancient Egyptian wall painting, with remarkably preserved colours and highly detailed scenes depicting her journey into the afterlife.
Several other tombs in the valley still preserve vivid paintings and intricate decorations, offering a rare insight into royal funerary beliefs and artistic techniques over 3,000 years ago.
