Skógafoss is one of Iceland's most stunning waterfalls and one of its most popular. The iconic shot that most people think of when they think of Iceland is this waterfall.
It's one of our absolute favourites, and we've visited time and time again in many different seasons. Located along the south coast, close to the village of Vik, Skogafoss is a huge 60-metre high cascade. It's 25 metres wide, and you can get right up close to the base of the falls - it's very impressive!
On a sunny day, you can see rainbows in the mist, and in the winter, the area around the waterfall freezes completely, creating icicles at the top, and the river at the bottom partially freezes.
There are two ways to see the waterfall. Either you can climb up to the top for beautiful views over the top of the falls or the surrounding scenery, or you can admire it from the base. We personally prefer the base, but there's also a hike that you can do from the top, which will take you to another 20+ waterfalls.
It's a popular stop for people exploring the South Coast, and a must-see destination for anyone visiting Iceland. This is another spot that can get very busy, however, as every south coast tour bus will make a stop here.
