How to get to Rome from the Airport
Taking the Leonardo Express
Wandering Sophia
Rome, Italy
When you fly into Rome, you’ll most likely land at Leonardo da Vinci International Airport (FCO), about 30 km outside the city.
The easiest (and cheapest) way to get to Rome is on the Leonardo Express train.
It takes only 32 minutes to go from the airport to Termini Station in Rome.
Even if you're totally jetlagged, the train station is easy to find. Follow the yellow signs, cross the street, and take the escalator to the platform.
You can purchase your train ticket online in advance but suggest buying at the station since you never know about flight delays or the wait for your luggage.
The ticket machines at the terminal have an English option. But I often use the Omio App. It's handy for train travel throughout Italy, and you can buy tickets instantly online.
Make sure you board the Leonardo Express rather than the local train, which takes much longer to reach the city. Check the digital sign to confirm the platform.
You'll arrive at Termini Station, Rome's central train station. From here you can catch trains to other cities in Italy. And it's connected to both metro lines (A & B), which you can take to the stop closest to your accommodations.
