Anjani Mahadev feels like one of those places that slips through the cracks of a regular Manali itinerary, which honestly makes it even more special. We heard whispers of it while riding through Solang, something about a naturally forming ice Shivling tucked into a quiet cliffside temple. Sounded too intriguing to skip. The walk is just under 2 km from the main Solang parking, an easy trail winding past pine forests and horses munching lazily in the grass(but tough tough in winters with snow coming to your knees). We passed locals in woollen shawls and wideeyed tourists, but what stood out most was this one family of elderly women wrapped in bright pashminas, making the slow climb with devotional songs playing softly from a phone speaker. And then you see it. A soft waterfall flowing from a cliff, forming a naturally sculpted ice Shivling underneath, nature and faith wrapped into one surreal moment.

How to Get There
Drive to Solang Valley from Manali (about 30–40 minutes). Park near the ropeway station or further up the road where the trail begins. The walk to Anjani Mahadev is easy and scenic, no need for a guide.

What to Do
The temple is the main draw, quiet, powerful, and peaceful. In winters, the frozen Shivling forms naturally under the waterfall, attracting pilgrims and photographers alike. Even without snow, it’s a calming space to just sit and breathe.

For the Curious
Locals say this is where Lord Shiva appeared to Anjani, mother of Hanuman, during her penance. The place still feels like it carries that quiet mythology. You’ll find a small shrine, bells, and offerings from those who believe.

Good to Know
Try going early in the day, fewer people, better light, and more peace. Don’t litter (obviously), and carry water. There are tiny stalls at the start of the trail for tea or Maggi, but nothing near the temple itself. No entry fee, and yes, photos are allowed, but maybe take a few moments without the camera too.
