Talk about FOMO - this Rail Mountain Bike experience in Hida was high on our wish list but we ran out of time (and knew our youngest wouldn't be down). I mean, how cool does this sound? You're literally riding bikes ON railroad tracks through the mountains! They take actual mountain bikes, attach them to the rails, and let you pedal your way through some gorgeous scenery.

The whole setup is pretty genius - they've taken these abandoned train tracks and turned them into this unique adventure ride. You're not just looking at the views, you're feeling every bump and groove of the old rails as you pedal along the Mt. Urushi Ravine. Plus, there's something kind of poetic about traveling these old train routes in such a different way.

If anyone makes it here, please let me know if it's as awesome as it sounds. This is definitely going on the "must-do" list for our next Japan trip. Sometimes the coolest activities are the ones that repurpose old infrastructure in creative ways like this!
