Talk about a perfect little side quest while visiting the sumo practice! Seishōkō-ji might be tiny (seriously, it's teeny-tiny), but it's one of those lovely surprise finds that makes wandering around Japan so fun. It's the kind of place you'd probably never visit if you weren't already in the area for the sumo practice.

It's not going to make any "Top 10 Temples in Japan" lists, but there's something charming about these small, quiet temples that exist without any tourist fanfare. No crowds, no gift shops, just a peaceful little spot that gives you a glimpse of everyday Japanese temple life. Sometimes the best stops are these unplanned ones that you stumble upon between the "main attractions."

Perfect example of why it's worth poking around the neighborhoods near your planned destinations - you never know what little gems you might find!
