You literally can't miss Tsuzumi-mon Gate - it's right there welcoming you the moment you step out of Kanazawa Station, looking like someone took a massive traditional Noh drum and turned it into architecture. And trust me, no matter how many photos you've seen, it's way more impressive in person.

What's cool is how it manages to be both ultra-modern and deeply traditional at the same time. Those huge wooden pillars curve up to form this dramatic arch that somehow perfectly captures the spirit of Kanazawa - a city that's really good at mixing old and new.

Even if you're not interested in architecture, you'll probably end up passing under it multiple times during your Kanazawa stay (we sure did!), and it never gets old. There's just something about the way it changes throughout the day - catching the morning light or glowing at night - that makes you want to stop and stare every time.

Pro tip: If you're meeting up with anyone in Kanazawa, "under the drum gate" becomes your default meeting spot. It's basically impossible to miss or mistake for anything else!
