On the opposite end from the main observation point of Shirakawa-go lies a hidden gem: three remarkable gassho-zukuri houses that represent the absolute pinnacle of traditional Japanese rural architecture.

The houses are positioned to catch the best light, and I think it's one of the best photo opportunities in the town.
