Taco Fanatico in Nagoya was a delightful surprise right in Hisaya-odori Park. Despite being packed (always a good sign), the flavors were worth the wait - probably because the owner/chef brings authentic half-Mexican heritage to the kitchen.

What makes it stand out among Japan's Mexican food scene is how it actually reminded us of California-style Mexican rather than the usual Japanese interpretation. The ingredients tasted fresh and the spice levels weren't toned down like at many other places.

Finding good Mexican food became something of a mission during our Japan trip, and this place delivered one of the better experiences. If you're in Nagoya and craving a taste of home (or just need a break from Japanese cuisine), it's worth seeking out even with the crowds.
