Fair Head is one of Northern Ireland’s most striking and iconic coastal landmarks — a dramatic headland rising sheer from the sea to heights of around 200 metres (656 feet). Located near Ballycastle in County Antrim, it forms the northeastern tip of the island and marks the western end of the North Channel between Ireland and Scotland.

The cliff face is composed primarily of dolorite, a type of igneous rock formed from ancient volcanic activity around 60 million years ago during the same geological events that created the Giant’s Causeway. The result is a towering wall of hexagonal rock columns that drop vertically into the Atlantic, offering breathtaking views and a sense of wild grandeur.

Fair Head is a paradise for rock climbers, known as one of the best traditional climbing venues in Ireland and the UK, with hundreds of challenging routes scaling the sheer cliffs.
