From the Bunglass viewpoint, the land rolls upward in wild green slopes before plunging straight down to the crashing surf below. The ocean stretches endlessly, shifting shades of blue and silver, while seabirds wheel and call against the wind. On a clear day, you can see as far as Donegal Bay and even the mountains of Sligo and Mayo shimmering on the horizon. But what makes Sliabh Liag truly special isn’t just its height — it’s the feeling of solitude and freedom. Unlike the more crowded cliffs elsewhere, this place still feels untamed, sacred even. The name “Sliabh Liag” means “Mountain of the Flagstones”, and walking the ancient Pilgrim’s Path up its slopes, you can sense the deep spiritual history of the land. It’s said that monks once lived here in quiet devotion, gazing out at the same wild sea.
