Electricity & Power Adapters
What to know about outlets and charging devices in Peru
Mayra Bazavilvazo
Peru
Electricity in Peru operates on 220 volts / 60 Hz, which is different from the 110 volts used in the United States and Canada.
Most modern electronics such as phones, laptops, cameras, and tablets are dual voltage, meaning they automatically adjust between 110–240 volts. In these cases, you typically only need a plug adapter, not a voltage converter.
Outlet Types in Peru
Peru commonly uses Type A and Type C outlets.
* Type A — the same two-flat-prong plug used in the United States
* Type C — a two-round-pin European-style plug
Many hotels — especially in destinations like Lima, Cusco, and the Sacred Valley — provide outlets that accept both plug types.
Do You Need a Converter?
In most cases, a voltage converter is not necessary if your device lists “Input: 100–240V” on the charger (which most modern electronics do).
Travelers who prefer to be prepared may want to bring a universal travel adapter, which works in multiple countries and makes charging several devices easier.
Helpful Tip
Bringing a small power strip or multi-USB charger can be helpful when charging several devices at once, especially in hotel rooms where outlets may be limited.
