You’ll find Kampung Baru in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, a surviving Malay neighborhood of wooden houses, narrow lanes and some of the city’s best no-frills hawker food. Go early for the pasar and nasi lemak or in the evening for satay and kopi; bring cash because many stalls do not take cards and wear comfortable shoes for uneven paths. It’s easy to reach via the Kampung Baru LRT station or a short walk from KLCC, and while the area is generally safe, watch for motorbikes weaving through lanes and be respectful when photographing residents and private homes.
