Bell Rock is a unique formation in the Hawke’s Bay region, overlooking the beautiful countryside, including the Kaweka and Ruahine Ranges. The stunning views are towards the rolling hills and Pacific ocean. Bell Rock got its name from the bell-like shape, and is often compared to the Lion King’s Pride Rock due to the steep cliffs. It is a popular spot with photographers, particularly during sunset.

The walk to Bell Rock is a moderate 3 hour loop hike through farmland, making it a rewarding hike for relatively low effort.

Remember: Stay safe. The cliffs are dangerous and exposed. It’s recommended to take a sunhat and raincoat, whatever the weather.

Personal tip: Bell Rock was extremely windy when we visited (and I have heard this is common…). Be prepared with appropriate clothing. It’s absolutely magical at golden hour, we love this spot!

Pronunciation: Kaweka: kaa-weh-kaa

Ruahine: roo-aa-hee-neh
