The Cola de Caballo (Horse's tail) hike offered an authentic adventure through the breathtaking landscapes of the Spanish Pyrenees! 🏞️ This full-day journey had it all – a scenic valley, dramatic mountains, plenty of waterfalls, and even a stunning glacial cirque. The waterfall itself was nestled at the base of the cirque near the beginning of the Arazas River. 🌊 Throughout the Ordesa Valley, the river cascaded over several more impressive waterfalls, creating a truly mesmerizing experience. There were surprise waterfalls along the valley, fed by temporary streams and tributaries, adding to the enchantment. 🌟
The hike from the Ordesa Meadow car park to the Horse's Tail Waterfall was approximately 18km round trip, with a 350m elevation gain. Unlike other hikes in the area, this one was less steep and featured wider paths with fewer hazards, attracting visitors of all ages and fitness levels. 🥾👨👩👧👦 The trail was bustling with activity, from large tour groups to solo adventurers, especially in the early afternoon. Yet, there were still moments of tranquility, particularly in the early morning hours. 🌅 Throughout the hike, there were countless opportunities for breathtaking photos, with hidden lookouts and stunning vistas at every turn. 📸
In total, I spent around 7 hours and 20 minutes on the trail, taking my time to soak in the beauty and explore detours along the way. There were plenty of options to customize the hike or extend it as part of a partial loop, providing endless ways to experience the Ordesa Valley. 🚶♂️💼
