Tucked beneath the Augstmatthorn ridgeline, this quiet alpine meadow offers one of the most peaceful and cinematic sunrise moments in the Bernese Alps. A few hikers (myself included) have bivouacked here for a night to catch the early light rising over the clouds — with views that honestly feel unreal.
Wild camping is not officially allowed, but some people do it discreetly, always with full respect for nature and leave-no-trace principles.
⛺ Note: If you choose to stay, be invisible, respectful, and gone with the sunrise.
🌄 Best time: Mid-summer on a calm, clear evening
🥾 Access: ~1 hour detour off the Augstmatthorn trail — flat spot just below the ridge
📷 Photo Tip: Set your tent facing east. Golden light and low fog are magic.
