The area around Katla Ice cave is something else. Large black sand plains against a backdrop of steep green mountains. You can drive here with a good 4x4 in summer. However, do not try it in winter. Only Super Jeeps will be able to traverse the landscape in winter. The path in is a bit tricky to find, but consider following a tour guide driving guests to the caves.

Note: the road can be VERY narrow at times and passing a Super Jeep tour can be precarious.
