Hike
2-3h
This used to be the highest waterfall of Iceland. Now it's the second highest after a new one was created after a volcanic eruption. With 198m in a narrow canyon it's still very impressive. You have to hike to it and up around it for the best views. It takes about 3 hours round trip from the parking lot and is a perfect day activity if you're staying in Reykjavik or just passing by on the Ring Road.
The trail has two river crossings. One where you walk across a log at the bottom, and the second one you cross the river above the waterfall by taking your shoes off.
The log is usually taken away sometime in October. You can check the status of the log on safetravel.is.
The trail is steep on the right hand side of the waterfall and can be slippery if it has been raining recently. Good hiking shoes is recommended!
