The Track:
The track is short, but it is rough underfoot and climbs up approx. 600m of elevation gain over the 6km.
It begins by going past Bottom Bealey Hut, on a track which is rather rocky. The track does become better underfoot while in the beech forest, before becoming rocking underfoot again after exiting the bushline.
There are sections where the track is wide enough to hold a childs hand while walking, but not the whole way.
Once you reach Lagoon Saddle, the track starts heading downhill to the hut. The A-Frame is right next to the track while the hut requires crossing a small stream and heading uphill around 40 metres.
Hut:
The first hut (Lagoon Saddle A-Frame) is really more of a shelter than a hut. It's tiny with no fireplace. There is a mattress inside, but only really one bed as such. You'd be best to take your own camping mattresses to pop on the floor.
The other hut is very old and dated. There are only two beds and the hut isn't very weather-tight or mouse-proof if it's a high mouse season. The hut doesn't give space to pop mattresses on the floor at all.
Personally, I would recommend only going as far as the saddle itself, and camping here. The views are much better, and it'll probably be a more pleasant night sleeping than in either of the huts.
Recommendations:
The walk is nice and short with good views, but the huts aren't anything spectacular so not really worth a trip on their own. Definitely would recommend camping on Lagoon Saddle instead for the views and an easily accessible wild camping location. You can also camp at the nearby tarn for water access.
