There is a secure carpark off Anawhata Road. After booking you'll get the details on how to get through the gate into the carpark.
The Track:
The track is an easy 5 minute walk of only around 100 metres. Even a 1 year old walker could walk the whole way if you walk slowly!
Hut:
The hut can be booked for exclusive use so that you don't need to worry about sharing, or you can just book the bunks you need for a cheaper rate and either share or during the week you'll likely have it to yourselves anyway.
Most of the tracks in the area are unfortunately closed due to kauri die-back, but it is still a great spot to hang out in the bush for an escape from the city.
The hut is fully equipped with gas cookers, all cutlery, pots, crockery etc. There is a mix of platform beds and individual bunks.
Recommendations:
This is a great first hike as kids of almost any age can walk it. With a short walk to the carpark you don't even need lightweight gear and you can always do more than one trip back to the car to grab more gear. With the gas hobs you don't even need to own a cooker! The perfect first taste of a backcountry experience.
