The Track:
Drive along Birchwood Road off the main Omarama Lindis Highway.
Keep going along the road after the 2WD carpark, till you see the hut. The road is in excellent condition, and a 2WD could make it a very decent way to the hut so you'd only have a short amount to walk if you so desired.
I have seen 2WD cars parked before the big river crossing well past the 4WD only sign.
There are side creeks to drive through, so best not to do this after heavy rain.
Hut:
The hut is a very cute wee rustic hut with single bunks. If you've got it to yourselves there's enough space to pop mattresses on the floor for co-sleeping.
Recommendations:
A great one to visit if you want to have the experience of driving to a hut without needing to do any too technical 4WD-ing.
