Bookings Required? Yes

Suitable in Winter? Yes

Camping Available? Yes

4wd required? Sometimes just to cross last few metres to the door of the hut.

Parking:

Either park in the Gertrude Saddle track carpark, a 2 minute walk away, or you can drive right to the door of the hut most of the time.

Hut:

NZAC Lodge just before Homer Tunnel.

The hut has 2 bunkrooms and a main kitchen/ lounge. There is full power, a full kitchen with cutlery, crockery etc. There's also a fantastic selection of books and puzzles to keep everyone entertained. Incl kids books.

The bunkrooms are only accessible by going outside, no interior access.

It does get busy in-season with it being used as a base by NZAC members climbing the Darran mountains.

Recommendations:

A great way to experience a hut without needing to leave behind any modern comforts. It makes a great base for exploring Milford sound day walks with kids.
