The Track:
The track is often used by mountain bikers so it's not too rough.
It starts off with an old 4WD road to follow, which then turns into a thinner mountain bike track. It winds around the hillside without too much elevation change. It is relatively well maintained.
If you were prepared for some hard yakka, and had 2 adults to help lift over some lightly rocky sections, you could push an off-road pram into the hut.
When we walked it, we were on a time limit as we were being picked up after crossing over from the Blenheim side took longer than expected, so we carried both our 1 year old and just turned 5 year old to power out in just under 2 hours. With the 5 year old walking it would have taken 3-4 hours depending how many breaks we had.
Hut:
The hut itself is a 6-bunk hut with individual bunks.
The old hut still stands (Barely) just behind the existing hut in the bushline.
There is a good clearing, but the space is not entirely flat for tents.
Recommendations:
The track is not technical nor too long or uphill. This does make it a great option for kids of all ages. The hut isn't the flashest option around for a first hut, but is still a great experience for beginners and more experienced kids alike.
