Parking:

Park at the Tuohys Gully Carpark in the Cardrona Valley.

The Track:

The track is a 4WD track to the hut. But it is exposed pretty much the whole way. Almost no bushes to have a break under or next to on a hot sunny day. Or in windy weather. This is the main concern on this track.

You walk uphill, from around 550m asl, to almost 1,200m asl. The track might be 'easy', but it is a big climb. Then it's still a bit of a drop down to around 950m elevation where the hut is.

With a 3 year old walking about half the way, we did this track in 2.5 hours out (We came in via a different route) Which there is less uphill on the way out. In this way would have taken an extra hour with the 3yo walking most of the way.

Hut:

The hut is an old musterers hut, however it has been done up, and inside is very lovely and clean.

The bunks are all individual with one double bed which is great for co-sleeping.

There is a lovely creek for a dip at the hut, but it's super freezing. Best saved for the hottest days of the year only!

Recommendations:

This can be a good first hut, but the conditions can make it not as great. If you're not confident that you'll handle the conditions, then pick a different trip. Make sure you head out in perfect conditions as warm weather in the carpark doesn't mean the weather conditions at 1,200m asl will be perfect.
