Parking:

For the easiest most direct route, park at the Tuohys Carpark - the same carpark as that for Meg Hut.

The Track:

You will be taking the main route over Tuohys Saddle and past Meg Hut.

This track can also be done as a 4-day loop track staying at Meg Hut, Deep Creek Hut & Kirtle Burn Hut (or in reverse).

The track is mostly a 4WD track the whole way so not technical, however it is very exposed to the wind and the hot sun. Make sure you've got plenty of sunscreen & hats as well as good cold weather gear even in summer as the track can still have snow in summer.

There is a creek crossing straight after Meg Hut, and then you climb up to a high point of 1400m above sea level from Meg Hut which is at just under 1000m asl. This creek crossing you will get wet boots. The creek is extremely freezing even in summer so best to keep boots on while crossing to avoid cold shock.

The last section of track drops steeply down to Deep Creek Hut where you've got another creek crossing. This one you should be able to keep dry boots on.

Hut:

The hut is old, but has been done up very nicely inside.

Individual bunks and a lovely creek to play in flowing next to the hut.

Recommendations:

I'd recommend doing this as part of a multi-day trip with children as otherwise the distances can be quite far especially with the unpredictable alpine weather. As a multi-day trip the distances are child-friendly, but otherwise it would only be suitable for older capable kids.
