Parking:

You can park right outside the hut, but first you need to 4WD here.

You do need to pay for access to the 4WD road. It's $100 per vehicle and you will need a high clearance 4WD. A smaller 4WD like a Subaru station wagon would just not have enough clearance to it. Once paid, they'll give you the code to the gate at the start of the road. You also aren't allowed to drive the road when it's wet - they say it's to avoid damaging the road, but it's also a lot more dangerous to drive on when wet.

It is not a technical 4WD in any way, but you pass through massive drop offs which are actually really scary. The road isn't wide, and if someone is coming from the other side it can be a very scary situation if you have mum nerves. The road in general is very scary with mum nerves.

The Track:

You can choose to walk this track to the hut with kids, however it is a LONG walk. It does save you the $100 road usage fee, but only older teens will probably not get bored on the walk. You still get the same stunning views, but without the mum nerves stressing about the car falling off the side of the road.

Experienced kids 5+ would be able to walk it, but would find it an extremely long and boring walk.

Hut:

The hut is modern and spacious. Platform bunks, and plenty of camping space outside.

Recommendations:

If planning on walking, I'd recommend a bare minimum of 8 years old just to keep the pace up. The views are stunning, but there are better access to views locations if 2WD + walk is your only option.
