The Track:
In summer it's a 4WD track the whole way to the hut. You can also pay extra to drive your car to the hut during summer.
In winter during the ski season the hut can only be accessed via cross country skis or snow shoes - both can be hired from the Snow Farm if you don't have your own.
The last section of the trail is a blue cross country skiing track - there is a bit of uphill at the end.
Hut:
This hut is great in that there are many smaller rooms, and you can book as small as a 4-bed bunkroom privately - perfect for small families. And with 6 rooms total, it can be a great spot for multiple families with little kids to stay together as in Meadow Hut the open plan design can make it hard for kids to sleep as they wind each other up at bedtime.
The hut is fully equipped with gas cookers and everything you need for cooking not including your food - crockery, cutlery, etc.
You can get bag transfers to this hut in the winter season too.
Plus there is cellphone reception at the hut.
Recommendations:
This would be a good option if you have a small family as you can just book an individual 4-bunk room. Being a little harder to access than Meadow Hut, it is better for families more confident on downhill skis, or take the snowshoe option.
