Skanderbeg Square is considered the central heart of Tirana and one of the city’s most important public spaces. Named after Albania’s national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg, the square features a large statue of him on horseback and has long been a gathering place for major events in the capital. Throughout the year, it often hosts concerts, festivals, and seasonal markets. The square was redesigned in recent years into a large pedestrian-friendly space, surrounded by some of Tirana’s most notable landmarks, including the National History Museum, the Et’hem Bey Mosque, and the Opera House. There are also several cafes and restaurants along the edges of the square, making it a good place to stop for a coffee while exploring the city center.
