Why Visit
Tamare Beach wasn’t on our itinerary: it was one of those accidental finds that ended up being unforgettable. My friend and I stumbled across it on our way up to Lëpushë, and it turned out to be one of the best swim spots I’ve ever come across in northern Albania.
Set along the Cem River, the water is cold but unbelievably clear. Even in the peak of summer, we had the place completely to ourselves. There’s a quiet stretch of riverbank where you can swim, sit, and just enjoy the stillness of the mountains around you.
How to Get There
Tamarë is a small village in the Kelmend region of northern Albania, best known as a stopover for those heading toward Vermosh or Lëpushë.
To find the swim spot:
First, cross the little bridge in Tamare village to the other side of the river.
From there, it’s just a short drive through a village and down a winding road.
The road isn’t great, not ideal for low cars, so if you’re unsure, it’s possible to walk from the village (roughly 20–30 minutes depending on where you start).
What to Expect
This isn’t a marked beach or a big attraction, it’s just a quiet patch of nature where the water slows down and forms a perfect natural pool. There’s a small, rocky beach where you can lay a towel, dip your feet, or jump straight in.
Even in the heat of summer, the water is refreshingly cold, but worth it. Bring some snacks or a book, and it’s easy to spend a couple of peaceful hours here.
