Hotel Margjeka is a great spot in Valbona, especially for the restaurant, which serves hearty Albanian mountain cuisine with beautiful views of the surrounding peaks.

I’d especially recommend trying the fli—a traditional Albanian layered pancake-style dish made slowly over heat and usually served with yogurt or cheese. It’s one of the classic foods of northern Albania and perfect after a day of hiking. The fresh vegetables and local cheeses are also excellent.

The setting is a big part of the experience, with a peaceful atmosphere and mountain scenery all around. Just note that the last 1 km drive is on a bumpy dirt road, so take it slow.

Prices are generally reasonable for Valbona, especially considering the location and portions.

It’s also a great place to stay overnight, particularly before or after doing the Valbona Pass hike.
