This 100-meter waterfall near Unterschächen is honestly one of the most photogenic spots in Switzerland - the water crashes down right into the pastures with all these cute wooden huts around. The walk there is super easy, basically just following a dirt road for about 3km from the village. Most powerful in early summer when all the snow is melting from the mountains above.
How to get there
🚞 Train to Altdorf, then bus to Unterschächen Ribi or Post
🚗 Drive to Unterschächen via Klausenpass road - park in the village center (marked spots) 🚶
Walk from parking about 45-60 minutes to the falls
The hike
Easy 6km round trip total
From Unterschächen follow signs to Alp Äsch/Stäubifall
Steady uphill but nothing steep - families with strollers can manage it
Alternative: Take cable car from Ribi up to Oberalp and hike down (more scenic but harder)
Tips
Best in May/June when the glacier melt makes it really powerful
Falls are in shadow most of the day - afternoon has best light for photos
Small restaurant at Alp Äsch near the falls (basic food, drinks)
The whole valley is pretty - lots of cows and typical Swiss mountain scenery
Combine with driving the scenic Klausenpass if you have a car
