Eilean Sionnach Lighthouse Cottage isn’t a hotel in the traditional sense but a truly unique holiday rental on a private tidal island off the south coast of the Isle of Skye in the Scottish Highlands. The name Eilean Sionnach literally means “Island of the Fox.”

You stay in a fully self-catering lighthouse keeper’s cottage right next to the old Ornsay Lighthouse. It’s designed for up to eight guests across four ensuite bedrooms, all stylishly decorated with modern comforts. The kitchen is well equipped and there’s a cosy lounge with a wood-burning stove and huge sea views. Arriving at the cottage usually involves a short boat ride from Isleornsay pier, although at low tide you can walk across.

The setting is deeply peaceful — you have your own small island with views across the Water toward the Sound of Sleat and the rugged Highland coast. It’s ideal for family or friends wanting solitude, wildlife watching, coastal walks, or simply relaxing far from crowds, yet there’s a traditional Highland pub and hotel on the nearby mainland if you feel like venturing off the island.
