Fingal's Cave is on the tiny island of Staffa and is usually visited on a guided boat trip from places like Tobermory, Iona, or Oban, so book in advance and expect cancellations on windy days. Wear sturdy, waterproof shoes and a warm, windproof jacket, bring seasickness meds if you get queasy, and travel light because there are no toilets, cafes, or shelters on the island. Landings can be brief and the path to the cave is uneven and slippery, so follow your guide, stay off the basalt columns and respect conservation signs. The payoff is the dramatic hexagonal columns and powerful natural acoustics, best appreciated in calm seas when you can get close or step inside briefly.
