Referred to as Scotland's longest, loveliest, and loneliest glen by Sir Walter Scott, Glen Lyon winds through the heart of Perthshire, boasting breathtaking landscapes filled with historical importance. The secluded glen stretches for over 34 miles, flanked by rugged hillsides, age old forests, and the tranquil River Lyon.

Nestled within lies the legendary Fionn's Rock, believed to be named after the mythical Gaelic hero, Fingal after he split the rock with an arrow with his incredible strength. Others say the rock was thrown by Fingal in a dramatic display or strength, which may suit his character profile if the other tales of legend are true.

Fingal is a character in the Ossianic poems, a collection of epic poems written by the 18th-century Scottish poet James Macpherson, and appears often in Scottish and Irish folklore.

In the Ossianic poems, Fingal is portrayed as a mighty hero, a warrior and leader of the Fingalians, a legendary warrior band. The most famous poem featuring Fingal is "Fingal" or "Temora." The character became popular in the Romantic era and inspired various works of art and literature. The poems were claimed to be translations of ancient Gaelic works, but their authenticity has been widely debated.

The walks around Glen Lyon are plentiful but the facilities scarce, but the scenic drive from through the glen is a must for anyone in the area. It can be frustrating at times not being able to park and enjoy the scenes that pass you by, but much like life itself, watching it come and go in complete peace and happiness is what you’re here for, so enjoy the ride.
