Ralston Cairn is a small, unstaffed prehistoric cairn set on open countryside, so expect a short walk over uneven, sometimes boggy ground with little or no signage and no facilities; wear sturdy shoes, bring waterproofs and a map or GPS, and park considerately at the nearest layby or farm track. You visit this spot for quiet views and a sense of history rather than interpretive panels or dramatic ruins, so take care not to disturb stones or vegetation, snap a few photos, and plan to use a nearby village for food, water and toilets.
