Istanbul's iconic İstiklal Avenue, often referred to as the Grand Avenue of Pera or simply İstiklal Caddesi, is one of the most famous avenues in Turkey. This 1.4 km pedestrian street of late Ottoman, neo-classical, neo-gothic and art nouveau style buildings runs from Tünel Square on the shores of Galata to Taksim Square and is home to boutiques, music stores, art galleries, cinemas, theatres, libraries, cafés, pubs, nightclubs, hotels, historical patisseries, chocolateries, restaurants and an ever-increasing number of international chain stores. The avenue also features vintage tram rides, the Tunnel subway and the iconic Çiček Pasaji with its lively restaurants and taverns.
