Europe:

There are no direct flights from Europe to Papeete (Tahiti), so you’ll need at least one connection. The most common and reliable routes are via Paris, Los Angeles, or San Francisco, with Air France, Air Tahiti Nui, and French Bee. Flights via Paris often continue onward to Tahiti after a stop in Los Angeles.

If you’re after a more affordable option from Western Europe, TUI flights departing from Amsterdam tend to be cheaper than most legacy airlines, usually routing via the U.S.

Least painful route from Europe:
Paris → Los Angeles → Papeete with Air France or Air Tahiti Nui is generally the smoothest option, as it keeps you within the same airline group for most of the journey.

United States:

The U.S. West Coast offers the easiest access to Tahiti. There are direct, nonstop flights from Los Angeles to Papeete, operated by Air Tahiti Nui and Air France, making this the most straightforward option overall. United Airlines also serves Tahiti via select routes depending on the season.

Least painful route from the U.S.:
Position yourself to Los Angeles and take the nonstop flight to Papeete.

Australia & New Zealand:

From this region, most flights route via Auckland, which offers direct nonstop flights to Papeete with Air New Zealand and Air Tahiti Nui. This is by far the easiest way to reach Tahiti from the South Pacific.

From Australia, you’ll typically connect through Auckland before continuing on to Tahiti.

Least painful route from Australia & NZ:
Fly via Auckland → Papeete nonstop.

Japan & Asia:

Japan is the only Asian country with direct flights to Papeete. Air Tahiti Nui operates nonstop flights from Tokyo (Narita), making this the most efficient option if you’re traveling from East Asia.

Least painful route from Asia:
If possible, route through Tokyo → Papeete nonstop with Air Tahiti Nui.
