When to Visit

Egypt has a hot desert climate with scorching summers and mild winters, and your experience will vary a lot depending on when you go

Egypt

  • High Season (Oct - April) - this is Egypt at its most popular for sightseeing. Expect mild, sunny weather (20–30°C days), comfortable for exploring pyramids, temples in Luxor, Nile cruises and Cairo. It's when most international visitors arrive, sites buzz and Red Sea resorts stay warm.
Pros: guaranteed pleasant weather, warm enough for beaches and diving, long sunny days, vibrant atmosphere at major sites.
Cons: prices peak (hotels, tours, cruises), popular attractions like Giza and Valley of the Kings get crowded.
Best for - history buffs, first-time visitors, families and anyone wanting ideal conditions for ancient sites and Nile adventures.

  • Shoulder Seasons (April - May, Sep - Oct) - the sweet spot and my preferred time: good-to-warm weather, thinner crowds and better value. Spring brings blooming landscapes and mild heat; autumn cools after summer with still-warm seas for Red Sea activities.
Pros: comfortable temperatures (25–35°C), easier exploration without extreme heat or massive queues, lower prices than peak.
Cons: occasional khamsin (dusty winds) in spring, some sites and hot inland areas still warm, fewer seasonal beach setups early/late.
Best for - couples, photographers, divers, snorkelers and those seeking a balanced, less hectic experience.

  • Low Season (June - Aug) - the quietest time for historical sites. Inland areas scorch (35–45°C), making temples and pyramids tough, but Red Sea resorts thrive with warm seas and domestic beachgoers.
Pros: lowest prices, minimal crowds at major monuments (short queues), great for diving and snorkelling in clear, warm waters.
Cons: intense heat and sun make outdoor sightseeing exhausting and challenging, some northern and coastal spots quieter, very few tourists inland.
Best for - heat-tolerant adventurers, budget travellers, Red Sea beach/diving fans or off-season explorers seeking peace at sites.
