Shortoff Mountain is a beautiful and moderately challenging hike on the southern end of Linville Gorge. The trailhead to this hike can be accessed by a normal car, but there are many pot holes and it's gravel so go slow and be careful.

The hike to the top can be challenging if you're not used to consistent ascent, but I found it doable. The views at the top are gorgeous and I would highly recommend this for a sunset hike.

The trail head only has room for about 8-10 cars so if you're going on a weekend or a busy time of the year make sure to arrive at a decent time. Additionally, as this is in the Gorge please practice bear safety - bring bear spray if you have it, never hike alone, and make noise while you're hiking.
