Hvítserkur, or 'The Troll of Northwest Iceland' is a captivating rock formation found in Húnaflói Bay. Standing at an impressive 15 m (49 ft) tall, this striking basalt rock stack is said by some to take the form of a troll, whilst others observe an elephant or rhino. Despite its eerie myths and legends, Hvítserkur actually takes its name from the vast number of bird species that inhabit its top, earning it the Icelandic translation of 'White Shirt'. Photographers flock to capture the awe-inspiring way the sun, moon and Aurora Borealis reflect off its smooth surface. Those eager to explore further can visit nearby Seal Centre, Súluvellir farm, Borgarvirki, and Vatnsnes—all just a stone’s throw away!
