Búðakirkja is a striking black church located on the south coast of Iceland's Snæfellsnes peninsula. Built in 1703, and reconstructed in 1987, the small church now sits alone amongst a stunning field of lava rock, creating a picturesque little vista within this remarkable natural wonderland. Visitors can stroll through the nearby Búðahraun lava field and admire fascinating rock formations while listening to the unique 'drumming' sound of the Common Snipe. Explorers can also stroll down to the nearby coastline along trails that feel unending. On the inside, the church is adorned with relics, like a bell and chalice, from its original construction, adding charm and intrigue to this incredible site.
